Funding available for Level 3 Forest Schools Leader Training NOW!

There is an opportunity for your school to receive full funding for staff to train as OCN Level 3 Forest Schools Leaders.  This pilot project involves accessing funding from Derbyshire County Council’s Extended Services and has support from Derbyshire Environmental Studies Service and Countryside Services.

Venue: Shipley Country Park 

Training Provider: Warwickshire Wildlife Trust 

Training Dates:                                                                                                                  20 –24 September 2010 – Initial intensive training week

7 – 8 October 2010 – Practical skills days

April 2011 – 1/2 day assessments with individuals delivering Forest schools. (Exact week in April to be confirmed)

June 2010– Portfolios to be handed in

Extended Services will fund training places for schools staff under the proviso that:

  •  A minimum of 2 teachers from a cluster should attend the training on the understanding from their Head teacher and SLT that they are being trained as cluster Forest School Leaders to support work across the cluster.
  • A partnership approach between feeder infant, primary, secondary and/or special schools would be useful. 

How to apply:

 If you would like to access this funding for training please complete a brief expression of interest (2 sides of A4 maximum) as a cluster signed by the head of each school involved which should include evidence of:

  • The name of your cluster
  • Two staff members, from two schools from any cluster. Please include the names of the staff who will undertake the training, the school they work at and their role there (this can be teaching staff, teaching assistants etc.)
  • Confirmation that the staff are able to attend all the training dates and venue above and able to complete the delivery and portfolio aspects of the course.
  • A brief outline of how you will work together as a cluster to deliver forest school
  • Location of woodland or outdoor area that you intend to use as your forest schools site
  • Details of the group you would run the trial programme with and how/where it links to extended services objectives (see below)

  • Bids to be collaborative and demonstrate partnership working (Essential)
  • Demonstrate sustainability (Essential)
  • Support other related agendas including Healthy schools, Family Reading Matters, Positive Parenting, Volunteering, Aim Higher, Cultural and Sport Offers etc (Essential)
  • Encourage engagement and involvement of families and the wider community, including intergenerational projects (Desirable)Projects that are innovative (Desirable)
  • Show contribution towards LAA and Children’s Trust targets within the ‘District’. (Essential)
  • Plans to be approved by YPSM (DM 11-19) and Extended Services Manager (Essential)
  • Focus on vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people (not economic) (Desirable)
