Royal Forestry Society Teaching Trees Education Officer

Location:         Ibstock, Leicestershire

Pay:                 £17.50 per hour, self employed

Hours:              1-2 days per week initially, school term time

Teaching Trees is an exciting woodland learning project which delivers hands-on, curriculum linked activities to primary school groups. Linking schools with local, well managed woodlands and forests, our sessions demonstrate the importance of trees for wildlife, for timber, for the environment and for fun!

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, with an engaging teaching style, to take on this new role based at Battram Woods in the National Forest. The successful candidate will develop and lead education sessions for KS1 and KS2 children, helping to inspire in them a love of woodlands and an understanding of why, and how, we manage them. They will need to be confident in marketing to schools and liaising with teachers and woodland owners.

Candidates are likely to have a higher education qualification in teaching, ecology, environmental science or forestry and will have experience of developing and delivering creative outdoor education activities.
