  • Forest School Practitioners meeting, Newton Solney C of E Infant School 21.09.2016

Thank you to all the staff including Forest School Practitioner Davinia Gamble and Head teacher Heidi Elks for hosting this meeting and sharing your experiences so far. It was also great to catch up with staff from both Newton Solney and nearby schools who are part way through their Forest School practitioner training. Our main themes for the meeting were to discuss setting up short burn fires and building shelters with limited trees.

Here is a link to the firebox mentioned plus an image below of the type of self supporting tarp we tried briefly (before the thunder and lightning began!) and of course the sheep who graze the area around Forest School sessions. If you share a site with sheep or have ovine neighbours you might be interested in exploring weaving, spinning, felting and natural dyes (for paler breeds) activities as part of your Forest School programmes (there are some ideas in the the Derbyshire Forest School Day 2016 notes)
